Founded in 1991, Kalamazoo Animal Rescue (KAR) began as an all-volunteer, foster-based organization dedicated to rescuing animals in need. In 2018, we took a significant step forward by becoming a licensed shelter, allowing us to expand our services and impact.
In 2017, we also launched our in-house spay and neuter clinic, addressing the critical issue of pet overpopulation. Our clinic not only serves KAR animals but also provides affordable spay and neuter services for the community, helping to ensure a healthier future for pets in our area. In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we established our Low Cost Wellness Clinic in 2020. This initiative was designed to help pet owners access essential routine vaccinations, reducing the risk of preventable diseases and promoting the overall health of our furry companions.
In 2022, we reached another milestone by purchasing our own building, and we proudly moved into our new facility in March 2023. This new space will enable us to enhance our programs and continue our mission of rescue, care, and community support. Join us in making a difference for animals in need!
